13th Annual Driggs Snowscapes: The Art of Sculpting Snow

January 20 - 25, 2025

The 13th Annual Driggs Snowscapes is presented by the nonprofit Downtown Driggs Association in Partnership with Grand Targhee Resort, Mills Concrete, Teton Valley Health Care and premiere lodging sponsor Teton Peaks Resort.

This larger than life art installation and associated events will take place on Driggs Plaza, 60 South Main Street, from January 20-25, 2024. This must-see FREE public art experience highlights the beauty of winter with monumental snow sculptures that will take shape on Driggs City Plaza, 60 South Main Street over the course of a week.

Monday, January 20th marks the advent of Snowscapes as Mills Concrete, Driggs Public Works, and Avail Valley Construction work to build and fill seven large concrete forms, and eight smaller quick sculpt forms, with more than 30 tons of snow!

Starting on the morning of January 20th until the final bell at 2pm on Friday, January 24th, eight sculpting teams of 5 professional artists each, from Wyoming, Montana and Idaho, volunteer their time and hard work to transform the plaza into an ephemeral, awe-inspiring, monumental art installation. A team of student sculptors from South Fremont High School in St. Anthony will return for a third year in a row, representing the new generation of snow sculptors.

Grand Targhee Resort, a Driggs Snowscapes Title Sponsor, is working with Team Wyoming, from Laramie to construct the 3rd Annual Snowscapes satellite sculpture onsite at The Ghee.

A FREE Driggs Snowscapes Community Block Party will take place on Saturday, January 25th from 10am-4pm at Driggs Plaza. This event will feature the 3rd Annual Quick Sculpt Competition from 1-3pm pm that involves 8 artists carving 4 ft tall snow blocks into any design of their choosing. Individual artists will have only two hours to complete their sculpture as the crowd watches. The main event juried competition awards ceremony takes place at 3:30pm during which teams will be presented with cash awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, the Quick Sculpt, and awards for People’s and Kids Choice, determined by public votes collected throughout the day. Attendees will also enjoy snow-inspired games for kids, Teton 6 Artisan booths and kid’s art-making stations inside the Teton Geo Center & Museum. Business sponsor and nonprofit booths will offer free hot chocolate and cookies.

Free educational programming will be offered at Driggs Plaza through the sculpting week for local students to experience live demonstrations from professional sculptors while they make miniature sculptures of their own. Kids will also enjoy a large snow slide with their families as they visit Driggs Plaza for sculpting days and the Snowscapes Community Block Party. A group from Seniors West of the Tetons will also be offered demos and a tour of the event.

The Annual SNOW BALL will take place on Friday, January 24th from 6:00-10:00pm at the Driggs City Building, 60 South Main Street in Driggs, Idaho. Dance the night away to live music, enjoy food for sale from Captain Ron’s Smokehouse and a cash bar with wine and beer from Citizen 33 Brewery on tap. $30 tickets may be purchased online at www.downtowndriggs.org starting November 18th. If the event does not sell out in advance, tickets will also be available at the door. Costumes and extravagant attire are encouraged. There will be awards for best dressed!

The 13th Annual Driggs Snowscapes is one of many free arts programs hosted by the nonprofit Downtown Driggs Association and supported by grants from the City of Driggs, Idaho Commission on the Arts, Idaho Travel Council, and Yellowstone Teton Territory along with Title Business Sponsors Grand Targhee Resort, and Mills Concrete.

Crucial support from local businesses, community members, and many wonderful volunteers all help make this event a winter favorite! We can't wait to invite you to Driggs for Snowscapes and Snow Ball! Questions? Contact Lisa Simmons at lisa@downtowndriggs.org.
