Exhibit Highlight: Snakes of Idaho
Now on view in the Idea Gallery at the Teton Valley Welcome Center, Snakes of Idaho offers a fascinating look at all 12 snake species found in the state. On loan from the Idaho Museum of Natural History at Idaho State University, the exhibit features striking metal photo prints paired with clear, easy-to-read notes that help visitors identify each species and learn about how they live.
Photographed over the past 45 years by herpetologist and wildlife photographer Dr. Charles “Chuck” Peterson, the images capture Idaho’s snakes in their natural habitats and highlight their important role in local ecosystems, from balancing rodent populations to supporting the broader food web.
Whether you’re a lifelong snake enthusiast or just a little curious, this exhibit is a great opportunity to see these often-misunderstood animals up close. Keep an eye out for details about an upcoming talk with Dr. Peterson, who will join us later this year—with live snakes—once they’re out of hibernation.
Stop by the Welcome Center and check it out!

Community Portraits: Names on the Land
Community Portraits: Names on the Land - Stories Behind the Map digs into the stories hiding in plain sight all around Teton Valley. Ever catch yourself wondering how did that place get its name? From Pierre’s Hole and Targhee to Driggs, Victor, Darby, and Leigh, this exhibit uncovers the people behind the names—Indigenous leaders, trappers, settlers, ranchers, and community characters who helped shape the valley we know today.
Part of the rotating Community Portraits series, Names on the Land invites you to see the map a little differently and discover how history, people, and place are deeply connected.
